So, we all know there are spiritual steps you can take to prepare for fasting, but let’s not forget about the physical side of things. Fasting is as much a physical experience as it is a spiritual one. If you’re planning to go on a water fast or a dry fast, here are some tips to help make the process a little smoother physically.
Now, I’m not a doctor, so I recommend checking with your physician if you need medical advice. That said, these are tips that have worked for me during my fasting journey, and I hope they’ll help you, too!
1. Hydrate
Whether you’re doing a water fast or a dry fast, hydration is key. Most people are dehydrated to begin with, so especially if you’re doing a dry fast, you don’t want to start out dehydrated (trust me on this one!). Drinking water beforehand not only helps your body stay hydrated but also flushes out toxins, which can reduce withdrawal symptoms—especially at the start of your fast.
2. Take Your Vitamins
Now’s the time to give your nutrient intake a little boost. You’re about to go without any physical sustenance, so being nutritionally deficient before starting a fast will make it much harder. Those withdrawal symptoms can hit hard! Eat healthier foods leading up to your fast, and take your vitamins so your body is well-nourished. This way, you’ll also deal with fewer cravings once you stop eating.
3. Avoid Exercise Before Fasting
If you’re a gym enthusiast or someone who works out regularly, make sure to get your workouts in before you start fasting. Once you begin fasting, you should avoid exercise. Your body will already be under a lot of stress, thinking it’s in starvation mode. Adding more stress by working out in a fasted state isn’t a good idea.
These tips may seem simple, but they can make a big difference in helping you complete your fasting goals. Luckily for you, unlike me, you don’t have to learn these lessons the hard way! 😊
I hope you found these tips helpful, and I can’t wait to hear all about your amazing fasting success stories. Until next time!
Shalom!
